The Hassocks Hills. Jack and Jill – South Downs of East Sussex

Sun 27 Dec 2020

We will visit the beautiful South Downs National Park in rural East Sussex, we will hike up 4 hills, and we will have superlative views out to sea.

Highlights

  • Jack and Jill Windmills
  • Beautiful South Downs National Park
  • Sea Views
  • Two noteworthy hills

The hike departs Hassocks, but soon we pass through fields and meadows, climbing up to ‘Jack and Jill’ at Clayton. It’s hard to miss the Windmills, they are silhouetted on the skyline. We will encounter orchids, cattle, horses, sheep, dew ponds, chalk grassland, trig points, a victorian castellated railway tunnel, iron age tumuli and barrows. We will have views of Devils Dyke and from Wolstonbury Hill, we can see Chanctonbury Ring. This is an ideal hike to stretch the legs following Christmas. See you there!
